Why .tm Behaves Differently From a Typical Country Domain
The .tm extension is Turkmenistan's country-code domain, but international demand for it as a short, brandable suffix for "trademark"-themed names has made it a globally traded premium domain rather than a marker of local presence the way .fr or .de function for their countries. Pricing reflects that: .tm registration and renewal costs run substantially higher than most ccTLDs, and the domain is marketed worldwide to brands unconnected to Turkmenistan, which means a .tm domain in search results doesn't reliably signal a Turkmenistan-based business to a visitor the way a typical ccTLD would elsewhere.
For a business actually operating in or trading with Turkmenistan, a .com domain remains the more practical default for day-to-day commercial use, given broader recognition, lower cost, and more predictable registration terms. A .tm registration still makes sense for brand protection or a short brandable name, but a business shouldn't expect it to carry the same local-search-relevance benefit that a ccTLD provides in markets where the ccTLD is used primarily by domestic businesses.
