Choosing Between a .bz Domain and .com for a Belizean Business
A .bz domain registers in roughly an hour with no local presence requirement, no company registration, and no need to prove any connection to Belize at all, since the registry, managed by the Belize Network Information Center, opened the extension to global registration decades ago. That openness cuts both ways for a genuinely Belizean business: registration is fast and simple, but the same abbreviation-of-business appeal that draws Belizean companies to .bz has also drawn international brands with no local ties, so short or generic .bz names are frequently already taken or held as premium listings by non-Belizean owners.
A .com domain remains the safer default for a Belizean business targeting regional or international customers, since buyers outside Belize still default to typing .com out of habit regardless of how recognizable .bz has become as a business-branding play. A Belizean business serving mostly local or CARICOM customers can reasonably lead with .bz given how quickly it activates, while a business courting international clients should treat .com as the primary address and .bz as a secondary or defensive registration.
